KIND-HEARTED grandparents have generously handed 16 brand new laptops to a primary school.

St Peter’s C of E Primary School in Sible Hedingham received the donation earlier this week.

The school had been seeking to fundraise £10,000 for new laptops and a new laptop trolley.

But after learning about the school’s campaign in a newsletter, grandparents Martyn Tuthill and his wife Dawn decided to take matters into their own hands by buying 16 Dell laptops for the school.

Mr Tuthill used funds from his own company, M & D Mechanical Services, to purchase the equipment.

He said: “Their computers the school had were very old and they were having to share.

“My daughter is on the PTA and asked if we could help make any donations so I just thought my company should fundraise for them and get the laptops.

“Schools should have the equipment they need to teach their students.

“It’s a shame funding isn’t available anymore but I thought they should have the correct facilities they need so went ahead and got them.

“I’m sure they will make good use of it.”

Headteacher Julie Harper added: “We have had a drive to get new and better ICT equipment.

“The donation blew me away to be honest.

“We have lots of kind parents who help out but this was very unexpected.

“It would have taken a lot of school discos and cakes sales to raise all of the £10,000 we needed.”
