A heroic police officer who was left wheelchair bound after the Westminster terror attack is to be helped by the DIY SOS team.

PC Kris Aves, 35, originally from Braintree, attended a London Police Commendation Ceremony on March 22 where he was awarded for his incredible work as a Police Liaison Officer in the Metropolitan Police.

On that same day PC Aves became a victim of the terror attack on Westminster Bridge when he was mowed down by the terrorist in a speeding car.

PC Aves took the brunt of the crash, which left him with two broken legs, several head injuries, a lacerated elbow, a damaged left shoulder, sternum, and a damaged spinal cord that has left him wheelchair bound.

The horrific attack left 5 people dead, including Police Officer Keith Palmer and another dozen with serious injuries.

PC Aves is now staying in Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury, where he has daily routines to assist with his rehabilitation.

His partner Marissa cares for their son, six, and daughter, four, in their home in East Barnet, which is now inaccessible to Kris and unsuitable for his rehabilitation.

The home needs extensive adaption throughout and a floor lift before he can return to his loving family.

BBC DIY SOS is now appealing for volunteers in the Barnet area who can help.

Traders and companies are invited to volunteer their support for this build, which will take place on October 10 and 19.

To join the build you need to attend a trades day being held on September 21.

Email diysosbarnet@bbc.co.uk as soon as possible with your trade details, availability and phone number.
