A BUTCHER shop will celebrate its five year anniversary this week.

Newlands Butchers, in Witham, held a raffle giving customers the chance to win a meaty shopping spree.

A total of 1,500 raffle tickets were given to customers over a two week period.

Tickets were handed out for free when a customer made a purchase from Saturday August 31.

Five tickets were then drawn by MP Priti Patel and Witham mayor Joanne Williams on Saturday August 9.

The selected lucky customers were then given £100 vouchers to spend in store.

Manager Nick Lodge said the butchers wanted to give something back to its supporters.

Mr Lodge said: "We would like to thank the community of Witham for supporting our business over the last five years.

"Our winners are delighted but they do not have to spend the money straight away.

"We have a wide variety of meats from gammon, pork, lamb, beef, chicken, we sell everything.

"They can even save the voucher for Christmas if they want to, providing a handy Christmas shop with meat which makes a lovely Christmas dinner."

Witham MP Priti Patel said she was delighted to celebrate the five year anniversary.

At the prize draw on Saturday, she said: "I am delighted to come here and celebrate the success of community businesses.

"I would like to congratulate the winners of the competition and I hope they enjoy the meat they purchase."
