The world of medieval medicine will be revealed as part of a talk at a museum.

Lyn and Mark Bloom will present the talk looking at herbology and medical techniques at Braintree Museum.

The husband and wife team, who run a historical costume company, will be speaking at the event as part of the museum’s School for Witchcraft and Wizardry summer holiday event.

Visitors can join Lyn for an interesting and factual talk about how snails, herbs and crystals were used in medieval medicine.

Polly Redman, marketing and retail officer at Braintree District Museum, said: “This talk is perfect for anyone interested in community and medieval history, and we are aiming for an adult audience to attend our talk.

“It is interesting to see how medicine has progressed from a medieval period to now.

“We take so many things for granted in the medical world, and it is surprising to see how many techniques, the medical principles, that is, which have stayed with us.

“This is a fantastic talk as it links in with our School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for children, but this talk will be aimed at adults this time.

“The museum has a tea and talk programme, where we host around ten talks a year with host speakers, and this talk looks set to be very interesting.

“This is a unique opportunity to discover the techniques used around medicine in medieval times.

“Lyn Bloom is the perfect person to portray that experience in what will be a fantastic talk.

“Lyn will bring in examples and will show people what they did in those times.

“She has told me she will even bring in a glass of leeches.”

The talk will take place on Tuesday, September 19 from 3pm to 4pm.

Tickets are free with admission.

However, booking is essential for the event.
