A THREE-NIGHT musical extravaganza organised by two publicans raised £2,250 for a children’s hospice.

Musical Mayhem took place at Braintree’s Vestry Theatre in July and was organised by Stuart Buckley and Bernie Smith from the Boars Head pub.

The show brought together hits from popular musicals like Hairspray, Wicked and Chicago.

In total, across the three nights of performances, £2,250 was raised for Little Havens Children's Hospice.

The duo visited the hospice on August 3 and donated a cheque for £4,000, combining the total from the show with their masonic hall’s fundraising efforts for the charity.

Bernie said: “You go in and your personal feelings make you upset because of the type of place it is but when you think about it, you realise what a wonderful place it is. We came out of there wanting to do more.”

The total amount raised from the show was boosted by the sale of a VIP ticket for any game at Arsenal’s Emirates stadium – raising an extra £600.

Stuart said: “As much as the kids are there for very serious reasons the whole place has an upbeat feel about it.

“They make life easier for the families and the kids as much as they can. It is all about improving the kid’s quality of life, it is a fantastic place.

“We have got another show planned for December and we intend to do more fundraising for the hospice in the future.”
