A BATTLING team of cyclists raised more than £3,000 for a children’s charity.

Ian Hounsell, David Cumbers, Aidan Kelly and Neil Richardson took on a 100 mile race through the capital, Prudential Ride London, in aid of Parc Essex.

The team, working under the name of Ride for Parc 2017, spent months training before the challenge, with the ride taking place at the end of July.

Mr Kelly, a Met Police Officer from Braintree, sustained several injuries when he crashed during the race, but still managed to battle through to reach the chequered flag at the finish line.

He said: “As a father whose son regularly uses the services of Parc I was pleased to take on the 100 mile challenge and help raise money to support this great place.

“As a team we enjoyed the training and the event, and we’d like to say a big thank you for all the support we received.”

Parc is a small charity based at Great Notley Country Park.

It provides play and respite opportunities for disabled of all ages children and their families.

The charity supports around 500 families that live all over the county.

Friederike Walter, digital media events manager at Parc, said: “We are incredibly grateful for this generous donation from the Ride for Parc 2017 team.

“This will benefit so many of our children and parents, and will ensure that we can continue to provide our services to everyone who needs it.”
