Quick-thinking police officers talked a man down from a bridge.

Braintree officers were called to the Millennium Way bridge, near Freeport, at about 5.15am this morning.

The man, who was suffering with mental health problems, was talked down by officers who had closed the A120 below.

Craig Carrington, District Commander for Braintree, said: "Thankfully local officers managed to engage the man in conversation and help him at his time of crisis.

"After about 45 minutes he stepped back and is now getting the help he needs.

"The officers' swift actions reduced the impact on a busy road at rush hour."
