A CHARITY quiz night was held at a pub in Black Notley raised more than £500 for Help for Heroes.

The event, held at The Vine Inn on Monday, July 10, was organised by local resident Julie Adcock, and raised a total of £506.

Raffle prizes were donated by local businesses, including Benton Hall Golf and Country Club, a number of shops at Blake House craft centre and LUXE Beauty Salon.

Julie praised pub manager Martin George and all at The Vine Inn.

She said: "Martin has been a huge support in organising this event and I’d like to thank everyone who attended, as well as the businesses who donated prizes.

"They have made it a great success and helped raise a fantastic amount."

The quiz followed a sky dive in January by Julie, which raised £650 for the charity and she is due to take on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge on August 12th.

The challenge will see Julie taking on Yorkshire’s highest peaks over a 12 hour period and so far, £500 has been pledged,

Julie became a local volunteer for Help for Heroes, following the loss of a close friend, who took their own life last August.

She said: "I wanted to do something in his memory and for something positive to come out of this difficult and upsetting experience.

"My friend served in the military for over 24 years and suffered with PTSD & depression since leaving the army.

"Help for Heroes provides support for our forces and veterans with physical and mental injuries sustained while serving."

With the help of family, friends and work colleagues at Pulsar Process Measurement, Julie has already raised £1,500, since January, a figure that looks set to grow.

She said: "I’m sure I am driving people mad with my fundraising ideas. As soon as one event is over, I’m planning the next one."
