HALSTEAD is going to be featured on TV after filming took place at a historic venue in the town.

The BBC sent their crews to the market town to film the popular Celebrity Antiques Road Trip team at Halstead Antiques Centre in the historic Townsford Mill.

Attracting 40,000 customers a year, the antiques centre is a treasure trove in the area.

This is the fourth time that the programme has visited the Antiques Centre, but the first time that they have brought a celebrity guest with them.

The show sees antiques experts accompany celebrities on a road trip around the UK searching for treasures and competing to make the most money at auction This time the expert was David Harper, one of the most popular members of the Road Trip team, who was advising Liz Johnson, one of the UK’s most successful paralympic athletes.

Liz won swimming gold medals at both the 2008 games in Beijing and at the London Games in 2012.

Liz also had the enormous honour of being the oath swearer at the London Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony.

James Killbery, owner of the Antiques Centre said “We are always happy to host the Road Trip team and David and Liz were great fun to have around.

“David obviously loved explaining items to Liz and was incredibly knowledgeable.

“We hope they do well with the items that they bought here – they really reflect the range of fascinating items that we have in the Centre”

The Mill dates back to 1740 and was one of the first Courtauld mills in the area.

It was converted to an Antiques Centre in the 1980s and is a popular local attraction and shopping venue, with some 80 dealers trading from the centre.

The BBC visited the antiques centre last Thursday.

Find out what David and Liz bought and how they do at auction when the episode airs on BBC 2 later this year.
