A WOMEN’S club that brings together members of the community in support of charity has celebrated its 80th anniversary.

The Inner Wheel Club of Braintree and Bocking was first set up in 1937 by Mrs F Dance, and 10 close members.

Eighty years on the group celebrated reaching the milestone at a special lunch event held at Colne Valley Golf Club on Monday.

Pam Byford, correspondent for the Inner Wheel Club of Braintree and Bocking, said: “We have various fundraising events throughout the year such as coffee mornings and meetings with speakers to enable us to support local charities such as Parc, Essex Air Ambulance and Macmillan Nurses to name but a few.”

The group also attends district events and work with other clubs to raise more funds for good causes.

Association president Zena Cole attended the birthday event on Monday along with other special guests.

The group have previously met at Thorogoods cafe, Braintree Community Hall but now the fourteen members meet at each other’s homes.

Mrs Byford said: “We also have friends and family who support us in all these events.

“We are always looking to increasing our membership with ladies who would be interested in helping the community and would enjoy the fun and friendship which we still offer after 80 years’ service to the community.”

Inner Wheel is an international service organisation for women, open to all.
