CHILDREN went on an action-packed trip back in time to learn about Vikings.

Kelvedon St Mary's Academy invited pupils to dress up for the day and study Nordic invaders.

An organisation called History Off the Page visited the school and brought history to life.

Jenny Bull, a Year 4 teacher, said: “It was fantastic, the children get so much from this type of hands-on learning.

"Their parents did brilliantly kitting them out for the day.”

Andrew Baron, from History off the Page, a former deputy head teacher, showed children the type of weapons Vikings used, what they ate, how they slept and what archaeologists look for when they dig for Viking artefacts.

He said: “I love my subject and teaching children, Year 4 made magnificent Vikings and their parents did a fantastic job turning them into the Nordic invaders for the day.”
