Committed To The Blues Brothers, Braintree Arts Theatre, April 22
This band is certainly well titled.
The Blues Brothers Set is a show in itself, the highlights of which are Ritchie Hicks and Rich Alcock’s superbly energetic performances in the title roles.
Well-acted, with relevant big screen visuals, BB has what The Commitments lacks at the moment, a narrative force to drive the musical action.
Staging details aside, the instrumentalists and all-purpose girl trio, produce a beautifully modulated, mellifluous sound, the best I have heard from the Arts Theatre stage.
The appreciative audience was roused to dance but this venue had little safe space in which to do so.
On their forthcoming tour, the band should ensure they get this.
