A BANKER who has raised more than £6,000 in memory of his mum is set to run 100km next month to raise awareness of pulmonary fibrosis.

Ben Miller, of Mountbatten Road, Braintree, hopes to raise money for Action Pulmonary Fibrosis after his mum died of the condition in 2015.

Sue Miller, 64, was taken to Broomfield Hospital on Boxing Day after feeling unwell.

She died a week later.

Mr Miller, 34, said: “Mum went into hospital and we didn’t know what was wrong, she had not been well for quite some time.

“Then on New Year’s Day we got told it was pulmonary fibrosis and there was nothing they could do because the amount of scar tissue on her lungs was so bad.

“She went from 10 per cent scar tissue in October, when she had a scan, to 90 per cent three months later.

“It shows how severe the condition is because she died on January 2.”

Mr Miller, who has now lost 2st from running, will run the distance of almost two-and-a-half marathons next month.

Sue, a mobile hairdresser, attended Chapel Hill Primary School and Braintree County High School.

Mr Miller said: “Mum was bubbly, outgoing, always loved a chat, she was such a people person and would get on with anyone.

“She just loved life and would do anything for anyone, she was my rock — I came to her for anything.

“For the last few months I have been concentrating on myself for a bit and I started running since the New Year.

“I’m doing about 15 to 20km a week. It depends on work as I don’t like going in the pitch black so sometimes I do a lap of my estate.”
