A DETERMINED fundraiser is set to take on a monster swimming challenge.

Fay Tuttlebury, 30, of The Street, Hatfield Peverel has challenged herself to swim 24 miles in 24 hours as part of the 2 Swim 4 Life event at Guild - ford Lido this Sunday.

The keen swimmer is no stranger to long distances after completing a team channel crossing last year, but taking on this challenge alone she knows it’ll be no swim in the park.

Fay said: “I am starting to get a little nervous, I have been training since September but it seems very real now.

“It will be tough, I know that, but I have been training in six-hour stints at a time and I feel in quite good condition.

“I’ve done a few training sessions where I haven’t slept and then gone for a swim to get used to the feeling of my body being tired.

“I am a firm believe that your mind gives up before your body, so I am hoping I can be mentally strong enough to push on when my body wants to stop.”

The challenge will see Fay swim 24 miles, although this won’t be consecutively. She will swim a mile every hour for 24 hours.

Fay is raising money for Place2Be, which has organised the event, and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

A keen fundraiser, Fay has completed a host of challenges to raise money for charity.

In recent years Fay completed a team channel crossing, as well as a born survivor event and a host of running challenges.

She added:”I have done quite a lot for the Cyst - ic Fibrosis Trust before, so they have become my charity in a way.

“I definitely enjoy the challenges, and it is great to be able to raise money to.

“It is a bit of a personal achievement for me as well, proving to myself I can do this kind of chal - lenge.”
