WORK to repair a bridge over the A12 is taking place this weekend.

Part of Ewell Bridge will be lifted out on the A12 at the Kelvedon junction.

The bridge, which remains closed as part of the ongoing work on the A12 and A120, will then be transported along the road for the repairs to be completed nearby.

The A12 northbound will be closed between junctions 23, Kelvedon south, and 24, Kelvedon north, overnight.

The closure will take place tonight from 8pm to 6am, with drivers diverted through Kelvedon.

The road will also be closed northbound at Kelvedon and southbound at Marks Tey over the same period of time tomorrow.

This closure will also take place from 10pm on Saturday to 4am on Monday.

Those travelling northbound will be diverted through Chelmsford, to the A131, A130 and finally onto the A120.

Drivers travelling southbound will follow this route in reverse.

Pedestrians wanting to cross the bridge are diverted to take Highfields Lane, Maldon Road and Ewell Hall Chase, or to take this route in reverse when travelling in the opposite direction.

Highways England project sponsor Kelly Milburn said: “We’d like to remind drivers that this closure will be in place throughout the weekend continuously from when it closed at 10pm on Saturday until it re-opens at 4am on Monday.

“There will be clearly signed diversion routes in place to minimise disruption but we would continue to urge drivers to plan their journeys and be aware of ongoing road works that may affect them.”
