ONE lane of the A12 has reopened after two people were pulled over by police and arrested after a fatal shooting.

Officers arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of murder and a 25-year-old woman on suspicion of attempted murder.

The pair were stopped and arrested by officers at around 4pm on the A12, between Kelvedon and Witham.

One lane was initially closed, causing slow traffic, but has reopened now.

The arrests come as police are now able to identify a man who died after being shot during the incident in Wickford as 45-year-old Hugh Doherty.

Mr Doherty was shot at about 9.45pm on Sunday April 16 at Cranfield Park Avenue, Wickford.

A post mortem examination has now been carried out which found Mr Doherty of Cranfield Park Avenue, Wickford died as a result of a gunshot wound to the chest.

A 35-year-old woman, who suffered multiple stab wounds during the incident, remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
