A BUS stop needs to be moved from a busy junction before there are more accidents, residents have said.

A boy was taken to hospital for serious injuries in February after he was hit by a taxi in Allectus Way.

The boy, 12, was treated multiple fractures and is still off school recovering from his injuries.

Since the accident, which happened during the afternoon school run on February 28, residents have been calling for the road to be made safer.

They have suggested moving a bus stop out of the way of cars.

Julie Marriott, 82, has lived in Allectus Way for 48 years.

She said: "To the best of my knowledge that was the first serious accident we have had.

"Moving the bus stop from right opposite the very busy junction would make a big difference.

"We all appreciate the wonderful bus service, however can't understand why it's opposite such a busy junction."

She also said more parking spaces are needed for residents.

She said: "Parking right up to the kerb can't be avoided due to lack of space and most houses have two or three vehicles, now resulting in driving blind when exiting from the shop and two takeaways.

"When this estate was built not many people had a car, something needs to be done really as there have been some close shaves and minor crashes.

"We are lucky we have got lots of green spaces and some of these will have to be sacrificed for parking, but it is quite important."

A spokesman for Essex Highways said: “We would always encourage residents with safety concerns to contact their local Essex County Councillor, who can then raise them with the Witham Local Highways Panel.”

Braintree Council said it was not the council's responsibility to provide off-road parking as the estate is managed and operated by Greenfields Community Housing.

Greenfields said: "We are aware that parking can be an issue for residents living on housing estates; a contributing factor being the increase in vehicles per household, generally.

"We will continue to work with residents and partner agencies to identify local issues, and support local community groups if they wish to try to find solutions."
