A CITIZEN'S advice centre is celebrating a cash boost of £25,000.

Citizens Advice Braintree, Halstead and Witham received the money through the Martin Lewis Fund.

The funding will help deliver a project providing more tailored support to Braintree residents experiencing long-term health conditions.

The project will support front-line workers in the health and care sector to recognise underlying social and economic problems that cause stress and anxiety.

Jennifer Hyde, CEO of Citizens Advice Braintree, Halstead and Witham, said: “We are delighted to receive this award through the Martin Lewis Fund. "This grant gives us the opportunity to run a project, already tested with clients, which found that the most effective way to support people is to work closely with colleagues from the Essex County Council Public Health team to address social and economic problems that impact negatively on people’s health and well-being.”

The funding comes from a £1 million donation from Martin Lewis to Citizens Advice centres across the UK in 2015.

Martin Lewis said: "Few realise Citizens Advice, which is at the bedrock of British society, is a charity not a government agency – a shame as the work it does is truly life saving.

"As a huge fan of the organisation, I wanted to do something to help it pioneer new ways to reach out and improve people’s lives, and I’m excited to see where this takes us.”

Citizens Advice Braintree, Halstead and Witham is one of only 25 local services across England and Wales to receive £25,000.
