A CHILD had to be freed from a car after it collided with the back of another vehicle on the A12 this evening.

The eight-year-old boy was trapped in his car seat when the door jammed.

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to free the youngster.

The accident happened at 6.20pm on the northbound carriageway of the A12 at Boreham, between Hatfield Peverel and Chelmsford.

A fire brigade spokesman said: "On arrival firefighters reported that one vehicle had driven into the back of another and that an 8-year-old child was physically trapped in his car seat due to the door becoming jammed."

The boy was left in the care of the ambulance service.
