A WOMAN who suffered severe kidney failure could be given the gift of a new life by her mum.

Sarah Spalding, 27, was diagnosed with stage five renal failure after an asthma attack forced her to go to hospital in October 2015.

The brave mother, who lives in Sycamore Close, Witham, has to have dialysis three times a week at Broomfield Hospital, or she will die.

Sarah’s only hope is a transplant, and by some small miracle, mum Wendy Day is a match.

She said: “My mum is going through the tests at the moment to check everything is ok which should be done by the end of the year.

“It is a relief and it is a worry and everything you imagine. My mum is saving my life which is such an emotional thing for someone to deal with.

“For someone to do this for you, you can never repay them. She has been with me through thick and thin.

“I have only got through this by the support of my family and thinking about my daughter.”

Further tests are required but Sarah hopes the operation will take place by the end of the year.

Sarah says she was unaware of the problems kidney failure could cause before she had the disease cruelly thrust upon her.

Sarah continued: “There are days where I really struggle with day to day things like just making a cup of tea. I have a little girl called Jordanna who is two-years-old and sometimes she notices which is the hardest thing. Sometimes I cannot take even her to the park because I am too weak.”

Today is World Kidney Day, a global event Sarah hopes can raise awareness and encourage more donors to come forward.

She said: “A lot of people do not donate their organs and without sounding wrong, what are you going to do with them when you are dead?

“I have signed up to be an organ donor because even though my kidneys are no use, my other organs could help someone.

“When you are waiting for somebody to save your life it really puts things into perspective.”
