A LUNCH club has received a cash boost from a funeral director.

The Witham Luncheon Club, which serves cooked lunches to retired members of the community, received £217 from Hunnaball Family Funeral Directors.

The money came from a Christmas fundraiser where residents made a donation to name a star after their loved ones.

Steve Robbins, community manager for Hunnaball Family Funeral Group said: “We are delighted to have raised money for the Luncheon Club.

"The generous donations from the ‘Name a Star’ event held in December at Coach House enabled us to provide much needed support to the club.

"Meeting at the Luncheon Club allows an opportunity for social interaction among the members, whilst enjoying a hearty lunch.

"It also provides an opportunity for volunteers to serve others in the community.”

The lunch club meets on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at the Town Hall in Newlands Street.

It has 110 members and is also supported by Morrisons and Tesco who donate various food items during the year.
