THE new landlord of a pub is hoping it can become the centre of a village's community.

Robert Smith has taken over The Vine Inn, on The Street, Black Notley, and wants to use his 30 years experience within the hospitality industry to create a unique and homely pub environment.

There are big plans for the pub, which will be gradually refurbished over the next two or three years, but the new landlord wants to retain the character and charm of The Vine Inn.

The menu features classic pub food using seasonal produce, craft ale and a selection of wines and spirits.

Experienced manager Martin George has been appointed having previously worked at the Flitch of Bacon in Little Dunmow.

Mr Smith said: "I want it to be a traditional village pub serving the local community of Black Notley.

"It is the last pub in the village and I think it is important that is stays as a traditional pub.

"We are not going to be a fine dining pub, we are going to serve good honest food and good beer."

The pub is now open extended hours seven days a week, serving both lunch and dinner.
