RESIDENTS at a care home were visited by a councillor who unveiled new refurbishments.

Vice-Chairman of Braintree Council, Stephen Kirby, visited HC-One’s Larchwood Care Home in Braintree.

The care home in Broad Road opened its doors to the local community with a Christmas Extravaganza to formally unveil its newly refurbished facilities.

The home was decked out with decorations made by residents and Mr Kirby was given a tour of the home.

The refurbishment works cost a total of £250,000 to complete and include fresh carpets and painting, new bathrooms and a new coffee bar.

Jade Smith, the home manager, said: "We noticed we didn't really have anywhere for residents and their relatives to go, so it's quite nice to have somewhere for them to have quiet time.

"Some of them are frightened to go outside so it's good they are able to have the coffee bar experience without having to leave the building.

"Stephen said he visited a couple of years ago and has seen a massive difference."

The visit was on Monday, December 5.
