TRIBUTES have poured in for a dedicated Iron fan who tragically died aged just 25.

Braintree FC fan David Page died on Monday night but the reason behind his death is not known.

Although living in Maybole, Scotland, David was a Braintree supporter and fans were due to applaud during the 25th minute of the game with Borehamwood FC on Tuesday night in his honour, but the game was cancelled due to a frozen pitch.

Fellow fans have flooded social media with tributes to David.

Former player Sean Marks tweeted: “Sad to hear the news of Braintree Town FC fan David Page has died. RIP.

“Brought laughter to my life and will be sorely missed.”

Steve Thoroughgood, 41, of Cressing Road, said: “We have lost part of the Iron family.

“I met Pagey in October 2014 when I was walking through town one day and there were three drunken Scottish lads and they came flying out of Benson’s Bar and were asking where the football was.

“I was on my way there myself and they made me get in a taxi with them – I thought they were mad.

“They were saying they couldn’t believe they were at Braintree FC because they had decided in the pub one day they were going to adopt an English club.

“They saved up enough money to come down and stay in a hotel – they couldn’t believe they were here.

“Their favourite player was Sean Marks, I told them if they stayed in the club bar after the game some of the players would come in. They mobbed them and were completely made up. Pagey was such a nice friend and he always had a smile on his face, 25 is no age at all.”

Super-fan Daniel Turner, 19, of Jellicoe Way, Braintree, said: “He was a big Braintree fan. I believe his connection with Braintree is that he just supported them as a team along with his friends, and stuck by that decision.

“I first met David at Gateshead and then met him at Altrincham and Tranmere.

“As he lived in Scotland it was hard for him to make games, but he was a great lad who didn’t mind travelling long distances to watch his team.”

In a message on Twitter, Braintree FC said: “We are sad to hear the news of the passing of Iron fan David Page. We send our condolences to his family.”

A minute’s applause will be held on Sunday during the game with Millwall FC.
