Police are looking for a cyclist who may have witnessed a crash.
Officers are appealing for information following an incident where a white Ford Transit van ended up in a ditch.
It happened at 4.30pm on November 3 on the B1256 Dunmow Road, Blake End, at the junction with the B1417 in Rayne.
The driver of the van, a 37-year-old man from the area, suffered serious facial injuries and was taken to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford for treatment.
Officers would like to trace the cyclist who was seen pulling out of the junction before the collision.
He is described as white, aged between 40 and 50-years-old, was wearing grey clothing and was riding a grey or white sports bicycle.
