TWO men have been charged in connection with an armed robbery in a shopping centre. 

The charges relate to armed robberies in Witham, London and five counties, including Essex.

Security guards were robbed near Halifax in Newlands Shopping Centre, Witham, on October 20 and at HSBC in Dunmow High Street on June 23.

Two men were arrested in Bedfordshire, on November 18 as part of a Metropolitan Police Flying Squad investigation into the two incidents and armed robberies across North London, Sussex, Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire and Kent.

Nicholas Wordsworth, 43, of Fiona Court, Enfield, and Mustafa Murteza, 48, of Tollington Road, London, were charged on November 20 with conspiracy to commit robbery on or before November 18.

They were also charged with possession of a firearm, possession of a shotgun, possession of ammunition for a shotgun and possession of a shotgun with intent to endanger life.

They appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court last Monday and were remanded in custody to appear at Kingston Crown Court on December 16.
