THE one-stop shop for adult education in Witham has relocated to new premises.

The Learning Shop @ Witham is part of the Colchester Institute and focuses on building adult learners' English, maths and IT skills by offering flexible accredited qualifications.

Users will also build their employability skills and receive advice on CV writing, interview techniques, careers advice and training options.

Witham Library will now host the shop, which has moved from its previous location within Freebournes Court.

At an opening ceremony on October 12, distinguished guests from councils were invited as well as previous students of the service.

Maeve Borges, vice principal for students services and support at Colchester Institute, said: "The service provided by The Learning Shop @ Witham gives adults the opportunity to build up skills to help them get back into employment, this includes; Maths, English and IT as well as other skills you can’t measure, such as; self-confidence, communication skills and positivity.

"I have really seen this in action today, talking to past and present students and hearing their success stories.

"Colchester Institute are excited by the opportunities that this new location will bring to the community.”

Carla Nicholson, a former student of the Learning Shop, said: "Having left school without any GCSEs, I decided I wanted to study for City and Guilds qualifications in English, Maths and ICT in order to pursue my aspirations to become a Teaching Assistant in a primary school.

"With having a young child, the flexible and online learning aspect of the courses greatly benefitted me, as I was able to study at times that suited me and at my own pace.

"Now, after two years of study, I have the qualifications I need to succeed in my chosen profession."
