A FARMER is saying his pumpkins have gone 'absolutely mad' as they have grown so large.

Antony Brew, from Abbey Farm in Coggeshall, said this is the second year he has grown pumpkins on the farm, following a trial patch last year.

He said: "This year I have increased the area to roughly two and a half acres and the pumpkins have gone absolutely mad.

"The average weight of these is around 10 kilos, with many weighing over 15 kg.

"We have already picked over 300 and there are many more still ripening in the field - it’s actually quite a work out picking these as they are so heavy."

Usually pumpkins weigh up to about 8kg.

The pumpkins are being sold from the farm, Olivers Nurseries in Earls Colne, and Kelvedon Master Butchers.
