A MAN has been released without charge after a hit and run.
Police were called just after 9.30pm on August 11 with reports that a 47-year-old man from Witham had been crossing Maldon Road, Witham, when he was hit by a grey Volkswagen Polo near the Sauls Bridge Close area.
He required critical care at the scene before being taken to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge for treatment.
Part of Maldon Road had to be closed to enable forensic collision investigation work to be carried out. The road reopened just after 2am the next day.
A 22-year-old man from Tiptree was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injuries by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.
He has now been released without charge.
