BRAINTREE Kickboxing Academy students have been doing a great job of representing the town in competitions across the country.

The club attended the MAASIF British Championships in Kent, which was probably their biggest competition to date.

They came away with a quartet of British champions, one of whom was in in both points and continuous disciplines at just eight years old.

There were golds for Dan Goode and 41-year-old Darren Baggshall, with double gold and a silver for Jack Patston, who is eight.

Curtis Free also claimed a gold medal and earned it by beating a 16-year-old in his final despite being aged only 12 himself, while Chris Heard took a silver and there was a bronze for Tayler Rogers.

It meant Braintree Kickboxing Academy came away with five golds, two silvers and a bronze from the eight categories they entered.

A week before the British championships, the club also attended the Norfolk Kickboxing Open when they had three fighters entering five categories.

Goode took two golds, while there was a silver for Baggshall and two bronzes for Patston.

The club also attended the Cimac British Open with three fighters

Patston fought well to reach the quarter-finals and just missed out on a position on the podium.

Jamie Mawer managed a silver medal in his first-ever competition and Rogers also got a silver medal in only his second competition.
