ENTHUSIASTIC pupils walked a sponsored edition of their daily golden mile to raise money for a children's charity.

Students from Beckers Green Primary School, on Beckers Green Road in Braintree, took part in the walk to help raise awareness and funds for the NSPCC's Speak Out Stay Safe campaign.

The charity had taught students in assemblies and workshops about the campaign and explained why it is important kids should speak out about abuse or neglect.

Claire Smyth, acting headteacher at Beckers Green Primary School, said: "In response to them coming in to talk to us we do a sponsored event for them.

"We do the golden mile every day anyway and it made sense to do a sponsored edition to raise funds for the campaign.

"The kids were taught how to get sponsorship safely and we proposed they put something green on to make that link with the NSPCC.

"We had lots of music on today and some of the children did a conga at the beginning.

"I asked the children if they remembered what the campaign is about and it is quite nice that straight away the children could tell me.

"We do the golden mile every day to encourage the kids to be active and for fitness."
