AN exhausted carer has resorted to putting videos of her husband having seizures online, to raise awareness of the severity of his condition.

Samantha Campbell, of The Green, Feering, looks after her husband Ross who suffers seizures, anxiety, regular falls, and severe panic attacks.

Mrs Campbell, 43, said: “One of the worst things about his conditions is we never know what will happen from one day to the next, or sometimes even from one hour to the next.”

She has had problems getting Personal Independence Payment benefits for him, as he is unable to speak to anyone over the phone to arrange assessments. He also finds it difficult having health assessments due to his mental illness.

Mr Campbell, 44, is due to attend a face-to-face assessment with Atos, a healthcare provider which offers assessments, tomorrow. The last one he had in 2012 resulted in him falling over.

Even his GP at Kelvedon and Feering Health Centre has said a face-to-face assessment should be avoided. Mrs Campbell said: “They won’t come for a home visit because he is ‘not suitable’– but they won’t say why.

“His GP and neuro-psychiatrist have advised us that a forced assessment at an Atos centre will cause harm to his physical and mental health.

“But at the moment, against this medical advice, it looks as though he’s going to have to attend or he will be penalised and any benefits will be stopped.”

Mrs Campbell wants to see more sympathy towards people with multiple conditions.

She said: “A lot of the conditions my husband has got have no ongoing treatment, so he just gets diagnosed and then signed off as there aren’t enough resources. I just want people to see what happens and create awareness, but it’s bad we have had to resort to putting that on YouTube.”

The videos show a mild seizure at home and another at Tesco in Braintree, both recorded at the request of her husband’s psychiatrist, so she could see what happens.
