A FUNDRAISER will be held to help a toddler with cerebral palsy get specialist treatment in America.

Aiden Mitchell, from Witham, was born in June 2014 at full-term weighing 6lb 9oz, but after complications during birth he was starved of oxygen.

Doctors lowered his body temperature by using an ice jacket for 72 hours to stop the spread of toxins to his brain and try and prevent further damage.

After two weeks he was allowed home and has since had an informal diagnosis of cerebral palsy.

His parents Fleur, 35, and Keith, 46, have raised money for him to attend a specialist neurological treatment centre in America, where he was lucky enough to meet up with Brainwave patron and Witham singer Olly Murs.

Mrs Mitchell said: “We don’t have an official diagnosis because he’s too young but we think it will come any time from now on and we’ll find out where on the scale he is.

“He will be closer to the severe end as he can’t talk or walk. With the Neurological and Physical Abilitation Centre there’s three weeks of therapy for three to four hours every day and we can’t find that here.

"On the first day he couldn’t weight-bear on his legs and by the end he was taking steps with support.

"When we were out in America we saw Olly was there, I think he was recording an album, so we contacted Brainwave who went to his manager and arranged for us to go over to his hotel where we spent about 20 minutes with him.”

On the NHS, Aiden receives an hour of physiotherapy and occupational therapy a month. On September 24 the family will host a talent variety show at Witham United Reformed Church.
