A GROUP of kind-hearted young people have raised money for a café that helps adults with learning difficulties.

As part of their time undertaking National Citizen Service, the group of about 15 young people raised £300.

They joined NCS as a productive way to spend the summer break, and raised the money for Roundwoods in Bocking.

After selling cakes, busking in the Braintree and Witham area and even waxing legs, the group used the money to renovate the centre, by painting garden sheds and benches and sprucing up flower bed displays.

Ray Gooding, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Education, said: “I was really pleased to hear this group of young people had given up their time to benefit others in their community, and I want to congratulate them for doing so.

"This is another great example of the National Citizen Service’s great work at a local level.”

Their hard work ended with a barbecue event, at which they entertained visitors by dancing and playing music.

NCS takes place across the country and is open to all 16 and 17 year olds for £50.
