BRAINTREE district musical talent need your votes to make it to an awards ceremony.

A Braintree singer, Witham singer and a Braintree band all want to walk away with a South East Entertainment Award next March.

Witham-based singer Johnny Mack has been nominated for best male solo, amateur artist recognition award and best original artist.

The 42-year-old married father of two will be releasing his debut album at Witham Public Hall in October.

He said: “Last year I was a runner up for the people’s choice award but because a few more people are recognising me I’ve had a lot of people nominate me now.

“Going by the polls it’s looking good but I never get too confident.”

Fraser Morgan, 19, from Braintree has been nominated for best male solo. The former Tabor Academy student released his first EP in January, which has sold more than 500 copies.

He said: “I’m so happy I’ve even been nominated, it would be weird.

I didn’t see myself being a singer, I wanted to be a banker.

“If I won it would mean all the sleepless nights and stress had paid off. It’s nice to know that you’re being appreciated for all your hard work.”

Three-piece girl band The Enlights went home with the award for best band this year and have been nominated again. Vicky Kaylor, 37, from Braintree, is a member of the motown and soul band along with Becky Bray, 37, from Wimbledon and Leah Kennerly, 30, from Romford.

She said: “We’ve been together now for about five years and we perform all over the place. We are all really pleased to have been nominated again and it would be awesome to win the award two years in a row.”

The top six acts in each category will reach the final. Visit Facebook to vote.
