HUNDREDS of supporters attended the Rayne Summer party on Sunday in support of a cause close to residents hearts.

The party was organised at Rayne Playing Fields to bring the community together in support of the No Brook Green Action Group.

A substantial amount of money was raised to be used for opposing the development at Brook Green, which despite being left off of Braintree's Draft Local Plan, will still go through the planning process.

There was a bake-off of more than 30 cakes which TV actress Chizzy Akudolu had the enviable job of judging.

Local musicians performed to keep the crowd entertained, there was a dog show, Rick's Digger Challenge and lots of food and drink stalls available for refreshments.

The organisers said: "This event demonstrated the strength of feeling within the local community who are vehemently opposed to this development due to its inappropriate size, location, scale and nature.

"This event will help enormously as it will enable the opposition team to be fully and properly equipped to fight it in the most stringent way it can."
