A SUMMER party with a difference takes place on Sunday August 7 to raise money for a cause close to resident's hearts.

The Rayne Summer Party brings together all the usual party staples like food, drink and music in the centre of the village at Oak Meadow Playing Fields.

But the day has been organised to help raise funds for the No Brook Green Campaign, which is opposed to the development of 1,600 houses on the edge of the village.

Sarah Cocks, one of the organisers of the show, said: “It is the first time we have done an event like this, normally we have an annual fete.

“It is to raise some funds should we have to go to an appeal. There is a possibility we might need to employ some professionals which will help us fight the application.

“We are aware it is not in the local plan but it still has to go through the planning process.

“We were looking for something that was slightly different and we thought about a dog show but then we decided on a big party."

The gates open at 12noon and 12.30pm sees the start of the Fun Dog Show where people’s pooches will have a chance to get involved in the fun.

A bake-off competition has also been organised, and bakers will have to impress a famous face to win – with actress Chizzy Akudolu judging who has made the most delicious treat.

There is plenty for kids to get involved in with bouncy castles, face painting, pony rides and much more.

Music begins at 12noon and runs throughout the day, with something for everyone from singer songwriter Fraser Morgan to acoustic punk duo Greydolf.

There are all manner of food and craft stalls available and there will be a licensed bar to quench people’s thirsts.

For the organisers, the show represents a great opportunity to raise awareness of the development whilst helping to promote community spirit in the village and the surrounding areas - entry is completely free of charge.

Sarah said: “It will effect everybody in the area regardless if they live nearby or not because 1,600 homes will have an enormous effect on traffic and infrastructure.”
