A HARDWORKING team of hairdressers have raised more than £1,000 for charity.

Staff at Yaxley Hair and Beauty in Newland Street, Witham, take part in the £50 challenge for Farleigh Hospice every year.

This year the team of five - Phillippa, Natasha, Jade, Hannah and Hope - took on Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales.

They managed the trek in less than six hours on June 26.

Owner Phillippa Gigg, 28, said: "The climb went really well. We've raised just over £1,300 for the hospice but we are hoping to get another couple of hundred.

"The hospice do a £50 challenge every year and we've taken part for the last four years.

"In previous years we've done a quiz, a Greek dinner and dance night and a CD where we went to a studio and did a version of the song Car Wash, but changed it to hair wash.

"I just feel it's good to give something back to the community, we are grateful for having clients and always being busy.

"I've also lost grandparents who have been looked after by Farleigh, my mum works there as a nurse and I do a lot of their staff's hair.

"All the team here were keen to get involved, they always are, I think Snowdon was their idea.

"We will definitely be taking part again next year."
