CARS took centre stage when then pulled up onto an airfield.

The Essex and Suffolk Glider Club played host to the second annual ‘Wings and Wheels’ weekend at Wormingford Airfield.

On day one a collection of iconic sports cars were on show while the second half of the weekend included classic cars and vehicles.

The club was also offering glider flights across the weekend and there were bouncy castles and other rides to keep children entertained.

Admission was offered completely free of charge, with all donations from the collection tins going towards the Essex Air Ambulance - a percentage of the profits will also be donated to the charity as well.

It is estimated that around 1000 people attended across the weekend.

Paul Robinson, publicity officer for the club, said: “Some people came and flew but a lot of people came just to look at the cars.

"On the Sunday it was a lovely day and people came out and really enjoyed themselves.

"We did no club flying, our members put themselves up and came out to help us.

"We had a car brought from one of our neighbours which a local man, not more than half a mile away used to race.

"You are always going to have neighbours being a club like this and it depends on how well you get on with them as to how successful we can be.

"It is about introducing people to gliding and what it is all about.

"A lot of people do not understand gliding because we make no noise when we fly over their houses.

"If we can inform and let people know what it is that we do that is what it is about."
