OFFICE blocks in Witham could be turned into flats if plans are given the green light.

Edan Homes has submitted a planning application for prior approval to chance office blocks in Braintree Road into 16 two-bed flats.

Witham Town Council said they had no objection, but were concerned at the potential loss of the start-up employment units and the potential loss of local employment opportunities.

Councillors were also concerned that there will be poor parking on-site.

Planning officers said: "Although Witham needs this type of accommodation, and its situation near the railway station is ideal, the town also needs facilities to encourage new businesses to establish and provide local employment.

"There may be a highways impact due to increased traffic from a residential development on the local road system around the Morrisons roundabout and station access."

Braintree Council will have the final say.
