SIX PARAMEDICS will be rowing the distance of the English Channel twice over to raise money for charity.

On June 11, 6 members of Hazardous Area Response Teams from across Essex will be at Freeport collecting money for ShelterBox.

The challenge will see continuous rowing of 15 minutes per paramedic until the target is reached.

There will also be a ''trick of treat' spinning wheel for a chance to win a treat, or have get a chance to spray a paramedic with a water pistol.

Sarah Ford, HART Paramedic, said: "It is a really easy way of getting people engaged and people love it.

"We have got some music and we are going to be in different personal protective equipment.

"I asked each person to see how far they could row in 15 minutes and we have set a target - I think we will do it."

The six members, four of which are based out of Great Notley Ambulance Base, will also be taking part in the UKChallenge 2016 later this year, for which they have pledged to raise the fitting amount of £999.

The challenge is three days of activities ranging from running and canoeing to anagrams and riddles.

It is the second time the group has taken part and this year their chosen charity ShelterBox provides emergency shelter and supplies to communities overwhelmed by disaster or humanitarian crisis.
