A MAN has been charged with assault after a teenage boy was hit by a car.

Emergency services were called shortly after 9.30pm on Friday to reports that a boy riding a bike in Browning Road, Braintree, had been in collision with a car.

The ambulance service sent a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance officer who found that the boy had suffered minor injuries and did not need hospital treatment.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "Officers went to the location and established that the boy was not seriously injured.

"Following inquiries at the scene police arrested the driver of the car on suspicion of assault and causing criminal damage.

"He was taken to Colchester police station for interview and subsequently charged with the offences.

"Attila Sheafik, aged 55, of Stephenson Road, Braintree, has been released on police bail to appear before Colchester Magistrates' Court on Tuesday June 28."
