A GROUP of students completed a five day fire training course.

During the intensive course, based at Braintree Fire Station, students gain confidence and develop life skills, while experiencing the techniques used by fire-fighters in their working lives.

The Notley High pupils all received certificates from acting chief fire officer, Adam Eckley, at Braintree Fire Station on Friday and finished with a mock rescue in front of family, friends and teachers.

Acting Chief Fire Officer Eckley said: “It’s a pleasure and a privilege to see so many talented young people passing out of our Firebreak course.

"The pupils have been here all week and I am always amazed at the progress they’ve made.

"I would like to thank our instructors for their enthusiasm and professionalism. I would also like to thank the school for their ongoing support of our life-changing Firebreak course."

Students got a taste of the skill and discipline it takes to be a firefighter and took part in challenging tasks including wearing breathing apparatus, testing powerful hose reel jets and climbing ladders.

The group included triplets Harrison, McCartney and Lennon Cooper and the crowd also included twin sisters, Skye and Scarlett, aged three, who were cheering on their sister, Sinead Smith.
