JAMIE Day isn't just looking for short-term success at Braintree Town after becoming the club's new manager.

The 36-year-old has been appointed as Iron boss and already has a clear idea of the way that he wants to take the club forward as they look to build on the success they saw under Danny Cowley last year.

Day, who has previously managed at National League level with Welling United and was assistant boss at second-placed Forest Green Rovers last year, was speaking exclusively to the Braintree and Witham Times after his appointment.

While he was working in a management team with a sizeable amount of cash at their disposal at Forest Green, he is someone who knows how to get success on a limited budget at Braintree's level.

And his extensive knowledge of the division could prove a big advantage for the Iron as they look to press on from last year's third-place finish.

However, Day isn't just looking at the short-term and he wants to build for the coming years.

"I wanted to pick a club and Braintree is one that has a clear development plan to go forward," he said.

"Yes, we might lose some players from last season but you want a group of players who will carry on for the next three or four years at this club and not be chopping and changing around.

"There is a good base here.

"Over the next week, we'll look closely at where we're at and whether we will need to do a bit of a rebuild.

"If we do need to rebuild then we want to have players who will be here in two, three, four years time, not just one season and then have to change and go again.

"It's important with recruitment that we have players here who are here for the long term.

"They need to get to know me and the club quickly and we wanting to stay here for a long period of time as long as they are performing."

A big part of Braintree's future plans is their desire to relocate from their Cressing Road home to a new stadium and Day said discussions with chairman Lee Harding and financial director Kim Cowell ahead of his appointment had involved a potential move.

Day added: "When I spoke to Lee and Kim, they were talking about the new stadium and the future.

"I want to build a squad of players who can carry us into that stadium and have all the qualities that Braintree have shown on the pitch in previous years.

"Hopefully they will be a group who can take us into that new stadium and once we are there, then the budget can rise again and we can look to compete even higher."
