VETERINARY nurses have launched a fresh appeal to find a home for a loveable dog who was paralysed from the neck down.

Honey, a Dogue De Bordeaux cross puppy, was taken to Millennium Vets in Millennium Way, Braintree, in April last year with no bowel or bladder control.

The practice kept Honey as their own and staff have spent that time nursing her back to health using canine hydrotherapy, physiotherapy and exercise so she can now walk with support.

Two nurses, Hannah Bourn and Steph Gowers, alternate taking her home at the end of their shifts and at weekends every week.

Veterinary nurse Miss Gowers, 26, said: "We think Honey has plateaued now so she may not get much better.

"She's still quite happy. We haven't had any interest in her at all, it's a real shame.

"People love her and her story, she's not your run of the mill dog."

The cause for Honey’s condition is still unknown, however she did test positive for lungworm. The vets treated her for the condition and believe the parasite may have caused multiple spinal cord bleeds, which caused the paralysis.

Miss Gowers said: "Ideally her new owner would be around quite a lot. Since she came here she's around people a lot of the time and we don't leave her at home a huge amount.

"She does struggle on her own, we couldn't leave her all day.

"Honey can live with or without another dog, she loves them and would enjoy living with one.

"She also loves children, neither Hannah or me have them but she'll see them at the park.

"Whoever she goes to would have to be reasonably fit because you have to help lift her up and she can't go on long walks because she gets tired easily."
