VILLAGERS against a plan for 1,600 new homes went on a three mile walk to promote their objections.

The No to Brook Green action group marched in protest of the development between Braintree and Rayne, proposed by the Acorn Property Group.

Most wore t-shirts displaying the ‘No Brook Green’ logo and the walkers held up letters spelling out the message.

Emma Wood, one of the protestors, said: "At one point the walk afforded beautiful panoramic views over almost the entire countryside area which will be turned into a dense housing estate if the plans are given approval.

"That was a sobering moment and one in which the true devastating impact of what is proposed was graphically realised had it not been before.

"One villager said it's just unbelievable that this would all be lost, and what a tragedy it would be."

The walk also passed by Naylinghurst, which is protected under heritage laws, and ended at the Booking Hall café.
