A NURSERY has improved its standards after being rated as good by inspectors.

Last year The Fairways Childcare Centre, in Stisted, was told it required improvement by Ofsted after recorded evidence to demonstrate the safe recruitment of staff was not available on the day of inspection.

After an inspection last month the nursery, which has 45 children on roll, was rated as good, with inspectors praising the quality of teaching.

In the report inspector Lynn Clements said: "The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. All staff have a very good understanding of the different signs of abuse and what procedures to follow in order to protect children from harm.

"Relationships between staff provide a good model from which children learn about appropriate behaviour towards others. They show care and consideration.

"Children extend their vocabulary while sharing story books or chatting in groups to share special news from home.

"Children communicate confidently. They use their imagination to become their favourite superhero or join in creative activities."

The centre is not yet outstanding because the manager does not have an effective way to make the best use of information about children's ongoing learning and development and although the setting has strong links with the local school, partnerships with other schools and nurseries are less well developed.

To improve, Ofsted said the nursery: "Must fully embed the recently introduced tracking system, in order to more accurately identify even subtle variations in children's continuing progress and strengthen partnerships with schools and other early years settings that children move on to, in order to ensure that all children are equally well supported in preparation for their move.
