BURGLARS broke into the Co-op store in Coggeshall and made off with cigarettes.
They smashed a window at the front of the store in East Street and managed to jimmy open the cigarette counter.
Once inside they emptied the stock into a bag and left through the front window.
Lee Hammond, Head of Security Services at the East of England Co-op, said: “We can confirm that a burglary took place on Monday, April 11 at our Coggeshall Supermarket on East Street, resulting in the theft of a quantity of cigarettes.
"We are working with the police to identify those responsible.”
The incident happened at about 3.30am and police are asking anyone with more information to call Braintree Police on 101.
