PUPILS and teachers at a Witham academy are hoping for 10,000 views on YouTube after releasing their annual Christmas music video.

Maltings Academy in Spinks Lane shot its festive film in the run up to the school’s Christmas lunch on December 9 and packed it with cameos from staff, teachers and pupils.

The school’s rendition of Sleigh Ride went live on December 16 and is a way for the school to celebrate the hard work and support of its pupils throughout 2015.

More than 7,000 people logged on to watch last year’s video, which featured executive principle John Szynal and his team doing their best Taylor Swift impression to her number one Shake It Off.

Film creator Dean Stokes and his team have been planning this year’s film since the summer, with staff contributing ideas to bring the show to life.

He said: “Our aim is to get absolutely everybody in the video.

“The staff are great at coming up with funny ideas and being good sports for doing some of the silly things we ask them to do.

“The students get into the spirit at the Christmas dinner where we film each year group and include clips of them dancing and enjoying themselves.”

He added: “There are a few groups of staff who have out-done themselves this year with props.

“Keep an eye out for a pregnant Miss Morton as Santa alongside the rest of the art department.

“There’s also a cardboard chimney with the SEND team which should generate some giggles.”

As well as YouTube, the film will be posted on the school’s Facebook and Twitter pages.

Mr Stokes said: “It’s our little gift to the whole community each year to say thanks for your support in making Maltings Academy an outstanding place to learn and work.

“It’s also an excellent opportunity for staff to get into the Christmas spirit and let their hair down.”
