TRAVELLERS pitched up on an old factory site in Silver End.

About 20 caravans spent Monday night on land off Western Road before moving on Tuesday.

Care assistant Cath McDonald, 59, who lives nearby, said: “We had travellers in the same spot two years ago for Christmas and New Year.

“The sound of their generator kept me up all night, it drove me mad.

“This time they stopped the traffic on Pod’s Brook Road when they were getting in.

“It’s terrible to watch it again. They threw dirty nappies over my fence last time.

“They’re not all bad, I just wish they would give them somewhere to go.”

A spokesman for Braintree Council said: “We understand that a group of Travellers are on a site on Western Road, Silver End.

“We have made the land owner and leaseholder aware.

“The land owner has confirmed that the lease holder is responsible for taking the necessary action.”

Separately, a group of travellers moved onto a site in Broomhills Industrial Estate, Braintree, on Tuesday.
